Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary

11 June 2011 @ Kuala Gandah, Pahang

Further east from Genting Highlands, lies the Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre. There is no entrance fee but donations are highly appreciated.

We got lost a bit on the way and reached the place a little late. It was past 2pm and the show has already begun! We quickly register ourselves and make our way to the stage.

After the performance, it was feeding time! We were given plenty of fruits to feed the elephants. You can either put the fruit on the elephant's trunk or feed directly into its mouth. I tried feeding through the mouth and.. *NOM* my whole hand was full of its saliva. Kinda disgusting...

Then, the elephants lined up for visitors to ride on them. Only visitors with yellow stickers were allowed to ride on the elephants. So make sure you be there early or make reservations to get the yellow stickers.

Later on, 2 younger elephants were brought to the nearby river for Splash Time! Visitors were allowed to play with the elephants in the water but there were too many people and I decided not to get myself wet.

That's how you splash!

The little elephants were quite playful. They would dive into the water, poop in the water and even tried to reach for banana leaves when the trainer was not looking.

After all the activities, the 2 baby elephants were guided back to the stage again for visitors to take a close up photos with them.

It's quite an interesting place to visit if you're an animal person. You can also visit their website to get more info. Make sure you be there early so you won't miss the show like I did! Billy, out.
