Tooth Fairy Movie Review

All thanks to Nuffnang again, I get to watch Tooth Fairy for FREE!! The screening was on Monday night (25 Jan 2010) and I was really glad that my friend WoonLee won herself a pair of tickets too! So there were 4 of us.

I'll just do a short review on this movie to repay back the generosity of Nuffnang. =)


Synopsis:

Dwayne Johnson is “The Tooth Fairy,” also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster’s dreams, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

So yeah, that synopsis basically sumarizes everything in that movie. A muscular hockey player turning into a cute little tooth fairy. I knew it's going to hilarious. But what I didn't know was... the hilariousity level was so intense that I almost roll off my seat!


It was a real struggle for this hunk to do all these yeeny weeny stuff to sneak into the kid's room and not getting caught. Geesh, you really need a lot of patience and cool gadgets to get you through the people, the cats and the dogs.

There's nothing much to say about this movie. Kinda ridiculously funny in overall. But there was a message that it's trying to convey to all its audience - always believe in your dreams and who knows, maybe one day you will achieve it. And... don't believe anything when an adult told you there's no tooth fairy or santa clause in this world. Haha.. Anyway, this movie be a good laugh after your long day at work/ study lah.

Now, I wish I have some amnesia powder... *poofs* You will forget what you read and read it again tomorrow and *poofs* ... and you will read again the next day and *poofs* ... and so on... *evil grins* Billy, out.

Bolt, Speak!

Once again, I was lucky enough to get myself a couple of free tickets, to watch the premiere screening of the latest animation by Walt Disney, BOLT.


The story revolves around a cute little white doggie by the name of Bolt, who "has" superpowers like super strength, laser eye, lighting speed and the ultimate SuperBark! But he got separated from his person whom he thought was kidnapped by the green-eyed-man.


Mitten, the bad cat turns out to be Bolt's best friend and taught him a lot of things, including how to beg for food using the innocent-doggie-look. Ha!


Rhino, the hamster lives in the world of idiot box and he's a big fan of Bolt. He knows every single super-moves of Bolt and his dream is to see the live action of Bolt's SuperBark.


That's Bolt and his person. Bolt is devoted to protect his person for the rest of his life until he forgot how to live his doggie life.

Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa

Nuffnang was giving away 50 pair of tickets to watch the premiere of Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa two weeks back. But I found out after more than 100 people applied for it. So, I guessed I'll just give it a shot. No harm, right?

Yesterday morning, I received an email from Nuffnang telling me I get to replace some Nuffnangers who can't make it to the screening. I was so excited and called back to confirm my attendance.

Thus I went with ChiaPoh, after work.


As expected, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, Gloria the hippo and the 4 penguins took off from Madagascar in hope to reach their "home" - New York.


The journey was joined by King Julien and Maurice [pic below]. He's one hell of a funny guy.


The plane worked well till they're out of fuel and crashed into the land of Africa, Alex's home.


This time around, the producers not only make the movie funny but a little touchy.


What amuses me most was how King Julien was able to convince the Africans to obey him! I like him though, he's funny!

Actually, I didn't enjoy the movie and was thinking to leave halfway because I was having high fever with a headache. Moreover, I think some people are dissatisfied with the seat arrangements as some couples have to sit far apart.

Anyhow, I still thank Nuffnang for inviting me for the movie and sending me the press kit. THANKS!

I like to move it, move it! He likes to move it, move it! She likes to move it, move it! We like to.. MOVE IT with Madagascar 2! Billy, out.

The worst movie I've ever watched. From the beginning till the end, it's about a psycho boy who kills. 15 years later he continues to kill. Boring and lame.



22 September @ Mamma Mia, The Movie

My first musical movie on the silver screen. All thanks to Nuffnang, I got 2 free tickets to watch the movie.

It's all about music and it's all about ABBA's songs. The whole movie is very lively and joyous. If you like ABBA's songs, it's a show not to be missed.



24 September 2008 @ Money No Enough 2

This was a pre-planned outing with all my friends from the TM Induction Course.

As expected, a Jack Neo's production will be full of laughter and tears. Touching scenes that we all can relate to will always appear towards the end of the show.

I wouldn't say it's his best production thus far, perhaps because I don't really understand most conversations and songs in the Hokkien dialect. Anyway, it's still a good movie.



26 September @ Painted Skin

This was a out-of-a-sudden urge from HanChin to watch the movie on that very day itself. So I bought the tickets online for HanChin, ChiaPoh, WoonLee and myself.

We went into the cinema knowing nothing about the story. Even so, enjoyed the movie. [at least it didn't make me fall asleep halfway through]

The movie is about 2 devils killing human beings for the hearts and the people trying to catch the murderer. The climax was a little bit of let down but overally, it's nice but could be better.


Watched 4 movies in 8 days, all in GSC 1Utama. My personal record so far. =P

Red Cliff & Dark Knight

Promised XinWei and Denise to watch Red Cliff Part I together, and we did.


Seriously, I learnt most names from the game I played, and I don't really know who's whose enemy and who's whose friend coz' I never read the story. It'll take me a decade to finish the book if I ever started it.

I still enjoyed the movie overall. Great movie. Anticipating the 2nd part of the movie.


25 July 2008 @ Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara

Finally, watched Dark Knight with ChunHao [just came back from UK] and SiawCheng.


The show was more than 2 hours and I was afraid to miss Nicol David's semi-final match in the Malaysian Open 2008. Lucky enough, I made it just in time.

Back to the movie, it managed to kept me awake, unlike BLue. Seriously, Joker is one of the best, evillest, funniest villain in movies so far. That makes the whole story interesting.


Oh, one more thing. The BatPod is way cool! =P

Ain't gonna write a lot of stuffs on the movies coz' somebody complaints that my movie reviews are boring. So, that's it, 2 great movies. Billy, out.

The Happening

It marked the end of our 22-days graduation trip to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.


Everybody's turned darker, but it was a great trip. We decided to eat Bak Kut Teh as dinner and watch a movie for celebration.

Due to the fact that we have lost contact with the cinema for 3 weeks, we don't know which show to watch. After voting, majority chose The Happening.


The four of us didn't know what the heck The Happening is all about. We just chose it because we like the poster and it looked rather mysterious. We entered the cinema hall without a clue what the story line will be.


The movie is rather interesting and the idea is quite unlike the others. As usual, there're some expected scenes and also some unexpected outcomes in the show.


For you who haven't watch the movie, I'd just say that many people died and whoever killed them is remained unknown. For me, I think it's the yucky greenish thingy that's killing everyone in town. Never thought it'd be them eh. =P Billy, out.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

It's a very memorable day. It marks the end of my tertiary education. It also marks the day I had the worst exam in my entire life. Let's cut the crap and talk about the movie.


Right after the final paper, a whole group of us, mostly my coursemates, decided to had a pleasant dinner together and catch a movie. So we went down to Mutiara Damansara for dinner and watched Indiana Jones 4 at Cineleisure.

This movie is the forth series of Indiana Jones. The previous three were filmed in the 80's. So, it's a classic adventure movie directed by the reknowned Steven Spielberg.

I think it's another great movie to catch if you're looking for actions, adventures, solving mysteries and a little humour. The most exciting part starts from where Indiana Jones, Marion and Mutt got chased by Irina and her gang. [especially when they provoked millions of flesh-eating army ants]

They saw something really scary

I gave this movie a very good rating because it kept me from falling aseleep in the 2 hours movie. And I didn't realize the show is going to end until I looked at my watch. It's very classic yet exciting and entertaining.

Give this movie a go while it's still on the silver screen and don't miss it. Billy, out.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Once again the backpackers of the trip set out to get all the necessities for the journey. After spending hundreds of ringgit on the stuffs, we head on for a movie.

Here it is, the long-awaited second series of The Chornicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian.


This is yet another fantasy epic film, based on the novel written by C.S. Lewis. [Oh, I just love fantasy epic movies] The story begins with Prince Caspian fleeing from his own castle as wars and duel began, to fight for freedom and the throne.

Lucy, Peter, Prince Caspian, Susan, Edmund [the kings and the queens]

The four kids kings and queens were summoned back to Narnia cluelessly, without knowing that they're there for a very important mission.

Thus, the four set out on the adventure and eventually met up with Prince Caspian in the woods to find out what has happened in Narnia for the past 1300 years.

Many things happened after that, but I guess I'm not going to reveal too much about it. One thing I can tell is that it's another action-packed film with a little humour to ease the nerves.

Ready, Aim, Shoot! [Susan leading an army of archers]

The war in the this film was different from the first series of Narnia. As it is in most movies, the good guys were usually outnumbered by the bad guys. So, the protagonists have to come out with brilliant ideas to kill efficiently.
[efficient: using least resources to accomplish goals] =P

Sadly, two of the siblings are not going to return to Narnia ever. Who? You have to watch the movie to know then. Another great movie. Billy, out.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

I know, I know... I'm lame.

Yes, I just watched these three blockbuster movies during my study week [instead of studying].

LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring [2001]

The first movie of the trilogy was screened about seven years back. I don't go for movies that often back then and even when I had the chance to go to the cinema with a friend, I wouldn't choose to watch Lord of the Rings.

Why? I just don't think it'll be nice to watch. Guessed that I was wrong then.

LOTR: The Two Towers [2002]

All the three films were connected to form a very long story. This live action fantasy epic film is all about a ring, the One Ring. And the quest of a group of people called the "Fellowship of the Ring" to bring the ring to destruction only in the lava of Mount Doom.

The evil ring has caused a lot of death, betrayal, pain and wars to the people in Middle Earth.

LOTR: The Return of the King [2003]

I really like this movie a lot because it is not only action-packed, it shows friendships, love, bravery, hope, determination and trust.

The wars are heart throbbing and exciting as the good guys were often outnumbered by the bad ones. But the spirit of not giving up always turn the table around, from a losing battle to a grand victory. So, we must never give up hope.

Who will ever forget Gollum [Sméagol], the traitor "Preh-shiusss.."


The brave one, the one and only, Frodo Baggins [played by Elijah Wood] I respect his determination to reach Mount Doom.


One of my favourite characters in the movie, Samwise "Sam" Gamgee. He's the only true companion of Frodo from beginning to the end. He's always there for his friend and ever courageous to raise a sword whenever Frodo is in danger. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Though total watching time is near to 10 hours, it is totally worth it. I can say that it is the best and most satisfying movie I've seen thus far.

People who hasn't watch it should really check it out. [but I think not many people are as lame as me to watch it only after so many years] Billy, out.

The Forbidden Kingdom

After a boring round in Petrosains and another yawny visit to the bookstore. We went to watch the Forbidden Kingdom after a long dinner.

Some people said that it's worth a watch, others don't agree. I shall witness with my own eyes.



The story tells about an American teenager who loves chinese kung fu and was sent back to the ancient China. His mission is to get the magical fighting stick back to the Monkey King, who was imprisoned by the evil Jade Warlord.



There were lots of actions and humour along the movie. Well, the fight between Jackie and JetLi was quite interesting.

Here're some pretty nice posters I found, for each main character in the movie.


Jackie was funny as usual. Especially when he bursts out an English conversation all of a sudden with the ang moh.


JetLi was a cheeky monkey. So playful all the time. This is my first time seeing JetLi playing such character, usually he's so cool in movies.


The ang moh who travelled from modern America to ancient China for a special mission.


Ah, the golden sparrow... I love to see her [LiuYiFei] in this movie. Always so calm and cool. Not to forget her lovely tune from her mandolin when she's not fighting.


The evil white haired witch. Meow with a Roar.

I just feel slightly akward with all the ancient chinese people speaking English most of the time. I'd rate it as a pretty good piece to watch. Bravo! Billy, out.
