Halo Let's Eat Music Festival with Rynn and Sheila Majid

21 November 2008 @ Palm Square, Jaya One, PJ

Halo Cafe is organizing Halo! Let's Eat Music at Palm Square, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya till December. I went there last weekend to watch Rynn Lim Yu Zhong and one of the best Malay singers around - Sheila Majid.

JooLi, WoonLee and ChiaPoh tagged along too!

We reached there quite early, had dinner and grabbed a nice spot near Starbucks Cafe. We each had a drink too... =P

Soon, people are crowding the place and invited guests were settling down at their seats. We, who have no tickets gotta stand beside them.

Anyway, me and WoonLee got ourselves a nice place where nobody is blocking us and we managed to take many photos and videos.

After the MC's gave out prizes to those who managed to answer their questions, Rynn came out!

He kept looking at the other side and we were hoping him to look over here.. "face here, face here" and he did! Phew~ so hard to capture his face lar...

He started the show with one of his fast beat numbers, 维他命C 我加你(Vitamin C I add you) and continue with his other songs, mixture from his old and new albums.

Here's one of the videos recorded: 林宇中 - 改嫁

Up next, the one and only.... SHEILA MAJID! *whistle* She still looks good and sings perfectly well after singing for almost 3 decades!

She performed all-time favourite Lagenda, Antara Anyer Dan Jakarta and Aku Cinta Padamu. Finally, she sang the duet, Melodi with Rynn. The atmosphere was getting really high as the 2 artistes let the audience sing the chorus part.

Here's a video of Sheila Majid singing Lagenda.

On the finale, Rynn invited the composer, 李志清 to sing 靠岸 (lean on shore?) together with him.

For more information on the Music Festival, click on the picture above to view the schedule and singers invited to perform at Jaya One.

I shouted along till I hardly had any voice but we all enjoyed it very very much. For more videos on the festival, check out my youtube collection. Billy, out.

I Saw, I Touched, I Played

2 August 2008 @ Kuala Lumpur

I used to stay in the central Kuala Lumpur when I was a kid. I missed the beautiful city sunset.

PuiYee's aunt injured her back last week and that gave me a reason to visit her, after 13 years.

Here're some of the familiar sceneries I used to see. [taken from 10th floor]

A newly built mosque and Stadium Negara

The trees (above the monorail train) blocked my view to my primary school [SJKC Jalan Davidson]
The road at the bottom is Jalan Hang Tuah

Menara Maybank, Menara KL, Petronas Twin Towers, Monorail & LRT Station

Me, PuiYee's aunt & PuiYee

I'm glad to see that she's recovering from her injuries. =)

Then, I drove PuiYee and her mom back to Sentul, met up with her dad and had dinner together. Thanks for the dinner, uncle!

After dinner, back to PuiYee's house and I saw.... MIMI!

Had been wanting to play on her after so many people touched her before me. I'm still her god-father okay.

Anyway, Mimi is just a nickname for her. Her real name is Yamaha Stagea Mini ELB-01. Beautiful piece of instrument.

enjoying myself though I can't really play well after so many years without practice

changing some settings on Mimi

PuiYee's turn to play

Then, PuiYee showed me a book, scores for 4 hands piano! Always wanted to play that since I watched Secret, by Jay Chou.

So, here's me and PuiYee playing simplified Laputa theme song. Don't laugh.

I will be back, Mimi... Billy, out.

29 June 2008 @ Plenary Theatre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Thanks to PuiYee, I went to KLCC again to watch talented young kids and teenagers perform their own song/arrangement on Electone. This is the National Finals of Yamaha Electone Concours and Festival 2008!

Besides me and PuiYee, another primary classmate of mine, PengThian was there too. PuiYee also invited her online buddy, ShenHui to join the fun. Lucky me to have three girls accompanying me to watch the performances. =P

UM Music Showcase 2008

19 March 2008 @ Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya

I received an SMS from BoonHui inviting me to attend the UM Music Showcase which is held 3 times a year. But this time, will be the biggest showcase ever held. It's organized by the Cultural Centre of UM.

I picked up EuHua and PuiYee [she has a friend performing too] on the way as they wanted to watch the show as well. Due to the heavy rain and massive traffic on the road, we were late. Luckily, we didn't miss BoonHui's performance.

Me and BoonHui [studying Musical Performance majoring in Piano in UM]

Mambo Influenciado

Gaia Kosalia

Violin performance by Jessica Ding

Piano solo by Tan Hsieh Chih, playing a Chopin's piece

lively Latin Percussion

The showcase ended with House of Rhythm, an idea created and composed by the music students themselves. There are 3 major themes in the performance; living room, bathroom and kitchen. All in which the students will use the equipments and tools found in the respective areas of the house to play music.

Living room [newspapers, brooms, mops, wastepaper baskets, television]

Bathroom [pails, rubber hose, washboard, cups, brushes, stools]

All together [Kitchen on the right using REAL knives, chopping boards, pans, ladles, spoons]

Here's a video of the finale of the show [House of Rhythm]. Please bear with the poor quality of video.

The whole performance was quite interesting as I quite enjoy listening to music myself. All thanks BoonHui for inviting me [though I've rejected her a few times due to my busy-ness]. I'm looking forward for the showcases to come. Billy, out.
